What is Recyclable

Pick up Calendar 2019

Route Map

Note: In order to make recycling as efficient as possible there have been a few changes made to the list of acceptable and not acceptable items. The most recent changes are:

  • Please only recycle plastics labeled as a #1 or #2 (the number is usually found on the bottom of a container).
  • Plastic grocery bags are no longer accepted (they clog the sorting machines, however, you can take them to grocery stores who have recycling bins for them).
  • Please do not put recyclables in plastic garbage bags, simply place them loose in the recycling bin.

Thank you for following the outlined list found here.

Note: The color of your can does not denote which pickup area you are in. All recycling cans are blue.

Details of the recycling service are as follows:

  • Place only acceptable recyclable materials in the recycle container (see list here). Recyclable items can be co-mingled or mixed together in the container. Please ensure all boxes, cans, bottles, and cartons, are empty. Rinsing is not necessary
  • The recycle can will be picked up on an every other week basis on Wednesday, the same as the current garbage pickup day. The recycle can and the garbage can will be picked up by different trucks at different times on pickup day.
  • The city has been divided into two separate blue and red pickup routes with each route scheduled for pickup on an altering, every other week basis. A flyer is being distributed with the recycle cans which will tell residents which pickup schedule they are on. A map of the routes can be viewed here. The 2018 pickup calendar can be viewed here.
  • Please have cans out to the curb by 6:00 a.m. or the night before. By combining recycling collection with the collection of regular garbage pickup, times may be altered.
  • Place the container in the street with the wheels against the curb or within 2 feet of the blacktop if no curb exists, with the front of the container facing the street.
  • Containers must be placed 5 feet apart and 8 feet from mailboxes, poles, fences, trees, or parked vehicles for easy access. Do not place cans under low trees or other overhead obstructions.
  • The container has an inventory number which is assigned to each household. The container must remain on your property and be properly cared for.
  • Additional recycling containers are available for $3.12 per month per container.
  • If you have more than one garbage container (black), it is recommended that you keep the extra container until you determine exactly what your garbage service needs will be. This will save the city time and money in re-delivering garbage containers.

We encourage all residents to make an effort to recycle. With strong participation from our residents we hope to recycle a large amount of waste that is now dumped into the landfill.

If you have any questions about the curbside recycling service, please call 801-394-5541 ext. 1201.
